Tavinder Lyal - 5 minutes with our Legal Assistant

5 Minutes with Legal Assistant, Tavinder Lyal

Tavinder Lyal joined SCE Solicitors in July 2021 as a Legal Assistant. She kindly took some time out of her busy schedule to talk to us about her role at SCE and for us to find out about her life in law.

Tell us about your current role and how you got there?

I am currently working as a Legal Assistant after having recently finished my LPC LLM (postgraduate course).

When did you first become interested in law?

I took part in mock trial during my A Levels and was given the role of barrister for the defence. I enjoyed all the preparation for the trial and went on to win with the defendant being acquitted.

What do you love about your role?

What are the challenges? I love the variety of work that is involved in my role, everyday is different and you never know what to expect. Having just finished university, I think the biggest challenge for me is settling into the workplace and getting into a routine.

What do your mornings look like?

I have to always start my mornings with a nice hot cup of tea to wake myself up.

How do you achieve a work-life balance?

I plan things in the evenings or on weekends, so I have something to look forward to after work.

Name 3 things you can’t live without in a day.

Tea, Music and Netflix.

What do you like to do in your leisure time?

I have recently taken up playing tennis again and going to the gym, which allows me to relax and have a bit of fun.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

I have always wanted to go to New York.

What food cannot you live without?

My ideal weekend involves…

spending time with family.

How have you been trying to pass the time in the current coronavirus pandemic lockdown?

I learnt how to sew from my Grandmother and actually ended up making two whole outfits myself, which was fun and kept me busy.
