Celebrating the team at SCE Solicitors

Celebrating the people that have been part of SCE’s 10-year journey

“Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients.” Said Richard Branson.

This rings so true and sometimes little is said, or perhaps not enough appreciation is shown to the people that essentially are the engine room of the business.

No matter how big your goals are or how good your business plan is, you can’t do it alone.  Your employees are your most important asset and having a fully engaged and happy staff no doubt helps to make a happy client base.

In this the 10th anniversary year of SCE, we want to celebrate the all-round brilliant people that have helped shape the success of our perfectly formed employment law firm, some of whom still work for us and help to keep the cogs turning.

John Dickens (paralegal and trainee)

John was our very first SCE trainee, helping the firm from the get-go and taking on some complex employment tribunal cases.  He later went on to become the first Cilex lawyer to cross qualify to the Californian bar and now runs his own business immigration practice in California.

Rana Begum (Administrative Assistant and Paralegal)

Behind every successful business sits at least one person who excels in organisational skills and this has to be Rana.  She was the glue that held the team together and a fantastic support to our clients. She is someone who is always interested in the goings-on of the business and is always learning and has gone on to secure a training contract.

Mandy Walton (Associate Employment Solicitor)

Mandy will always live on in our hearts after sadly passing away in December 2017.  She was instrumental in supporting the development of our myHR product and was an exceptionally skilled lawyer. We miss her dearly.

Debbie Mactaggart (Consultant Solicitor)

Debbie seems to possess a resilience superpower and keeps us all grounded particularly during challenging periods of time.  She is a true team player and leads by example.

Jennifer Hoult (Practice Manager)

During her time leading the firm, Jennifer assumed the role of chief staff motivator and made sure our clients were really well looked after.

Tracy Sutcliffe (Bookkeeper)

The ‘numbers’ side of the business was never my strong point, so it was really important to find the right person to help us keep the finances in order.  Tracy does a fantastic job holding the purse strings and is a core part of our team.

Hazel Spencer (Social Media Consultant)

With her excellent organisation and creative skills Hazel helps us make a splash on social media to engage our clients and share our client stories.   Make sure you’re following us on Linkedin.

Sarah Dykes (H&S Consultant)

Sarah really takes all the hard work out of our health and safety compliance and is vital cog in our team.

Linda Rowson (Business Development Manager)

Linda is great at spotting new business opportunities and helps us to keep focused on developing our client base.  She is a really valuable extension of our team.

Samira Cakali (Managing Director)

Last but not least I couldn’t really do this without sharing some of my own thoughts.  Since starting the business, I have gone from being just a solicitor to a fully-fledged businesswoman. My powers of resilience have been well and truly tested but it’s all been worthwhile.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is that whilst it is important to serve the needs of your clients, you should never lose sight of the glue holding everything together – your colleagues and key stakeholders.  Prioritising your people pays huge dividends in keeping morale high, service delivery top notch and more loyalty from your clients.

I am feeling hugely grateful to all these wonderful people and we will be sure to take some time for a proper celebration soon.
