Vicki Wright - 5 minutes with our Practice Manager

5 Minutes with Vicki Wright, Practice Manager

Vicki Wright joined SCE Solicitors in July 2021 as Practice Manager. She kindly took some time out of her busy schedule to talk to us about her role at SCE and for us to find out about her life in law.

Tell us about your current role and how you got there

I have worked for many years in an HR environment and for the last nine years this has been in a freelance capacity.  Samira and I started working together on workplace investigations at the Houses of Parliament and the rest, as they say, is history.

When did you first become interested in law?

I first dabbled in Employment Law as part of my Business Administration degree which has been useful throughout my career working in training, recruitment and more latterly for a specialist in Bullying and Harassment issues.

What do you love about your role? What are the challenges?

I am administrator through and through and enjoy the satisfaction of ‘getting things in order.’  Many people shy away from admin but I thrive on it.

What do your mornings look like?

My mornings start with packed lunches and the school run before starting work in peace!

How do you achieve a work-life balance?

Knowing that there is a balance and that priorities do swing from personal life to work but everything does get done one way or another.  Also knowing to take advantage of the quiet days.

Name 3 things you can’t live without in a day.

A shower first thing in the morning, a Diet Coke mid-afternoon, and hugs from my boys whenever I can get them.

What do you like to do in your leisure time?

I am an avid reader and enjoy Book Club (also dubbed Gin Club) with my neighbours.  I love to walk in the fields and woods surrounding our house.  I am a big armchair sports fan but do try and get to Wimbledon most years.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

The place we go back to time and time again is Lyme Regis in Dorset.  We discovered it over ten years ago and it’s like a home from home.  The last time we went abroad was to Canada, specifically to visit Niagara Falls which I absolutely loved having wanted to visit since I was a teenager.

What food cannot you live without?

I do love Nachos!

My ideal weekend involves…

Neighbours popping in, baking and cooking for the family and hopefully watching Spurs win.
